Fashion Scene

Fashion Scene: NYFW: Part 1

There's really nothing quite like New York Fashion Week—the shows, the scene, the scads of super-stylish attendees—it's a really happy time of the year for us. Sure, there are stressors (schedules, seat drama, snotty attitudes), but checking out the new collections is always a delight, especially when there are so many strong ones to enjoy! Of course, we also adore seeing what everyone's wearing, which is why we're showcasing some of the week's most intriguing outfits in today's Fashion Scene story. In our first installment of this story, we've included a few girls with cult followings (Alexa Chung, Chloe Sevigny), beloved editors (Taylor Tomasi Hill, Joanna Hillman, Meredith Melling Burke), plus loads of tastemakers, models, and major stars, all for your viewing pleasure. So what are these women wearing now? Read on to find out and make sure you check out the Who What Wear blog for more behind-the-scenes details too!

WHO: Byrdie Belle
WHAT: Seen at the Charlotte Ronson F/W 11 show on Saturday.
WEAR: The fabulous fashion plate looked stunning in a vintage beige slip dress and a black cashmere Michael Kors shrug. We love the high-contrast ensemble, especially the way the cozy knit piece tempers the frock's delicate nature and gives the whole look a decidedly luxe finish.

WHO: Taylor Tomasi Hill
WHAT: Snapped at the MM6 Maison Margiela and Opening Ceremony F/W 11 Presentation on Sunday.
WEAR: Our NYFW style coverage would not be complete without a nod to one of our favorite editors, the flame-haired Taylor Tomasi Hill! We have a serious style-crush on Marie Claire's Style and Accessories Director, especially this adorable ensemble. Tomasi Hill contrasted the charming, schoolgirl vibe of her gray Burberry sweater and Sportmax collared shirt with an edgier piece, specifically a vintage Fenton leather skirt, for a front-row ready look.

WHO: Annabelle Dexter-Jones
WHAT: Snapped at the Illesteva party at Milk Studios on Sunday.
WEAR: With her vibrant colors and playful stripes, it looks like Jones is ready for spring fashion! The downtown darling and half-sister of Charlotte and Samantha Ronson (lucky girl!) looked oh-so cute in a bright red Kitsune blazer over a vintage striped tee, but perhaps our favorite part of the outfit is her super cool sunnies—a limited-edition pair she designed with her boyfriend, artist Andre Saraiva, for eyewear brand Illesteva.

WHO: Alexa Chung
WHAT: Snapped backstage at the Christian Siriano F/W 11 show last Thursday.
WEAR: The television host/designer/stylesetter showed off an intriguing look, wearing a Deyrolle Pour Opening Ceremony maxi dress, Prada shoes, and Chanel bag. We adore the frock's bold fox print, which adds a touch of quirkiness to the whole ensemble, and the fact that Chung added bright red heels for a refreshing splash of color.

WHO: Kirsten Dunst
WHAT: Photographed front row at the Patrick Ervell F/W 11 show at Milk Studios on Saturday.
WEAR: We are head-over-heels for this black and white combo Dunst put together early this week. Her Patrick Ervell button-up blouse and pants and bow-bedecked Isabel Marant heels instantly caught our eye because it's simple, yet totally chic. Additionally, we appreciate that she gave her minimal mix a touch of color via red lipstick.

WHO: Agyness Deyn
WHAT: Spotted between shows around Lincoln Center on Saturday.
WEAR: Deyn kept her look cozy and casual, selecting a vintage utilitarian-inspired coat, House of Holland Big Ben Sweater ($330), and Alexander Wang gray beanie. The rugged combo is totally cool and mimics Deyn's punk-tomboy sensibilities.

WHO: Joanna Hillman
WHAT: Snapped around Lincoln Center on Saturday.
WEAR: Oh how we love Joanna Hillman's amazing style! We've spotted the Harper's Bazaar Senior Fashion Market Editor in a number of to-die-for looks this week, but this one definitely tops our list—for now, at least! Hillman layered a Michael Kors fur-lined jacket over a crisp white 3.1 Phillip Lim vest and Textile Elizabeth and James' Jimi Flare-Leg Jeans ($245), demonstrating her ability to effortlessly blend winter and spring essentials to create the perfect between-seasons look.

WHO: Olivia Palermo
WHAT: Leaving the Peter Som F/W 11 show in the Meatpacking District on Sunday.
WEAR: There's so much to love about this winter ensemble Palermo put together, starting with the intriguing mix of plaid prints from her Roni wide-leg trousers and Peter Som tweed jacket. Additionally, we appreciate the subtle pops of color throughout her look, like her Peter Som neon pink top, blue scarf, and green suede coat by Joseph. The whole outfit is thoughtfully constructed and visually stunning—we're obsessed!

WHO: Jenna Lyons
WHAT: Seen front row at the Vena Cava F/W 11 show at Milk Studios on Thursday.
WEAR: As J. Crew's President/Executive Creative Director, Jenna Lyons knows a thing or two about constructing great ensembles, and the featured look is certainly proof of that. She stepped out in an Isabel Marant striped sweater, J. Crew pleated skirt, and Altuzarra lace-up ankle boots, and finished her outfit with a gorgeous creme coat by Celine and J. Crew leopard-print bag. We are in awe of her high/low mix and the resulting ultra-stylish ensemble!

WHO: Meredith Melling Burke & Jordan Daly
WHAT: Hanging out at the Prabal Gurung F/W 11 after-party on Saturday night.
WEAR: It's always a treat to spot two stylesetters together, so you can imagine our excitement when we came across this double dose of excellent styling by Meredith Melling Burke (Vogue's Senior Market Director) and Jordan Daly (Burberry's US Vice President of Public Relations). Though MMB opted for a chic city look with a cozy fur coat, cropped trousers and strappy heels, we are also fond of Daly's more down-to-earth selection, which included an ankle-grazing frock, blue jacket, and boots.

WHO: Chloe Sevigny
WHAT: Spotted at the Imitation F/W 11 Presentation at Milk Studios on Sunday.
WEAR: Sevigny never fails to impress with her brand of downtown daring, and she captured our attention yet again with her Helmut Lang dress and the Darling Sunglasses ($325) from her spring collection for Opening Ceremony. Plus, we love the fact that the actress/designer broke up her all-noir ensemble with a richly textured coat by Proenza Schouler.
