Romantic L.A. Getaways For Valentine's Day

With Valentine's Day coming up, you and your significant other may want to retreat from all the couples crowding the city's best restaurants. So, for you and your sweetie, we found the most private, most romantic, most relaxing spots in and around our fair city. All you have to do is pack up your bags—and for some of these hotels, your pups—and get ready to spend the most romantic day of the year soaking up some L.A. love

The Charlie:
Film lovers will adore the secluded Charlie Hotel, built on a compound once inhabited by Charlie Chaplin, Gloria Swanson, and all the other silent greats. With 17 gracious mock-English cottage apartments, each with its own kitchen, and a pet-friendly policy on its lush floral grounds, this West Hollywood haven is perfect for a weekend of snuggling up on the couch with a bottle of Pinot.
819 North Sweetzer Avenue (at Waring Avenue); 323-988-9000. Rooms start at $300/night; pet-friendly.

San Ysidro Ranch:
John and Jackie, Gwyneth and Chris, Julia and Danny, what celebrity couple hasn't honeymooned here? And who could blame them? This bungalow hideaway amid the orange trees and eucalyptus in the Montecito foothills of Santa Barbara is a tranquil escape from the hubbub of L.A. With rambling herb gardens and a spacious pool, this spot has the makings for a truly romantic weekend, right in the heart of wine country.
900 San Ysidro Lane (at East Mountain Lane); 805-969-5046. Rooms start at $375/night.
Colony Palms Hotel:
Want some desert heat without the retirees on the golf course or screaming children by the pool? The Mediterranean style of the Colony Palms offers lush rooms and some delicious peace and quiet...perfect for reconnecting with your partner. This boutique hotel also boasts a Moroccan-inspired spa and it's pet-friendly, too, so you can bring your pup along on this glorious mini vacay.
572 North Indian Canyon Road (at Via Colusa); 760-969-1800. Rooms start at $190/night.
Hotel Erwin:
Youth hostels and seedy motels seemed to be the only option for the Venice Beach inclined, but with the opening of the Erwin, a pleasant mix of Boho counter-culture and L.A. cool, you're all set for your beachside weekend. With a rooftop bar overlooking the boardwalk, and a location that is within spitting distance from brunch at Gjelina, consider this your perfect weekend getaway without having to really get away.
1697 Pacific Avenue (at Windward Court); 310-452-1111. Rooms start at $206/night.
