Marie Clair

She arrived in typical Brooklyn-cool fashion: jeans, ankle boots, army jacket, and no makeup. For our shoot, Michelle Williams would be transformed from indie darling to ethereal goddess. The halo effect came naturally, thanks to Williams' platinum-blonde hair—dyed for her upcoming role as Marilyn Monroe. The actress mixed a custom cherubic-pink lipcolor on set. As for the clothes: Valentino, Dior, Fendi, Ralph Lauren, Donna Karan, and Alberta Ferretti provided sheer delicate frills. Despite being in love with every look (a pair of Dolce & Gabbana bloomers in particular), the Blue Valentine star was uneasy in front of the camera. To the rescue: MC stylist Alison Edmond, whom Williams asked for some "supermodel tips." Happy to help, Edmond posed like a pageant mother behind the photographer, while Williams laughed and copied her every move.

Dress, price upon request, Ralph Lauren Collection; shoes, $810, Gianvito Rossi; cuff, $30, Guess.
